RI Senate President Dominick J. Ruggerio has died

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Rhode Island Senate President Dominick J. Ruggerio passed away Monday morning.

His office confirmed his passing in the following statement:

“It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Senate President Dominick J. Ruggerio earlier this morning. We are so grateful for the love and support of his friends and colleagues. Throughout his illness, Donny fought valiantly, just as he always had for his constituents and the residents of Rhode Island.”

On Friday, his office confirmed Senate President Ruggerio had been admitted to Fatima Hospital after he had a reaction to a treatment he was undergoing.

Senate President Ruggerio had served as the Senate President since March of 2017. He also previously served as Majority Leader since November of 2010.
