WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE)- A bill that would change the name of TF Green is going to be introduced to the state’s House Committee on Corporations on Monday.

If the bill was to eventually pass, the new name of the state’s airport would be “Rhode Island TF Green International Airport.”

Some people believe that if the name of the airport is changed, the change should include Providence, rather than Rhode Island.

Deputy Speaker Charlene Lima, of Cranston and Providence, is part of the group that would prefer Providence to be in the name.

In a statement about the proposed bill, she said, “renaming the airport the Providence/Warwick TF Green International is substantially more appropriate for many reasons.”

Lima cites that travelers tend to visit cities, and don’t travel to visit a state.

She also mentions that not a single airport in the country is named after the state where it is located.

The bill will be introduced at 4 p.m. on Monday during a House Committee meeting.
