Newport police add chocolate lab puppy Bo to the force’s ranks
NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — The Newport Police Department introduced the city to the newest member of the force Monday.
Bo, a chocolate lab puppy, will be joining the NPD ranks as a therapy/comfort K9 upon completion of his training.
Bo was presented to the department by Dame Dogs Labradors of Poscoag and will ultimately be partnered with Community Police Officer Nick St. Lawrence in the Community Policing Unit.
Jess Gaes, a local trainer from Petrichor K9, has volunteered to train Bo for his future job at outreach events and school visits.
Bo will also be trained to detect explosives at public events.
Food, training materials and grooming services for Bo were also donated to Newport police by Tallia Luvera from Wag Nation in Newport.
