DARTMOUTH, Mass. (WLNE) — The Dartmouth Police Department said a man was arrested after he allegedly crashed a stolen vehicle on April 26.

20-year-old Evan Gonzalez was charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle, leaving the scene of property damage, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, marked lanes violation, and speeding.

Around 2:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to High Hill Road for a report of a single vehicle crash involving a Dodge Charger, in which the driver then allegedly fled on foot, according to Dartmouth police.

During their response, Dartmouth police were notified by the Freetown Police Department that officers had previously attempted to stop the vehicle in their town, but that the Dodge Charger did not stop. Police later learned the vehicle was stolen out of New Bedford.

Dartmouth police established a perimeter near the crash and found Gonzalez, who was taken into custody without incident.

Gonzalez was taken to the hospital with minor injuries from the crash, and later released.

The defendant was processed at Dartmouth Police Headquarters and taken to the Ash Street House Correction to await bail, according to Dartmouth police.
