Man accused of striking officer with car to face a judge in Providence
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Providence man will be in court Tuesday morning after he allegedly struck an officer with his car over the weekend, with the officer firing his weapon and striking the suspect in the abdomen.
Police said they responded to a report of a woman and man fighting at the Shell gas station on Hartford Avenue in Johnston Saturday.
When an officer tried to walk up to suspect’s car, police said 28-year-old Damian Peterson struck the officer with the vehicle.
The officer fired several shots at Peterson who then crashed the car a short distance away.
Both Peterson and the officer are expected to recover.
Peterson was arraigned in part on Monday in his hospital bed, and he will be arraigned Tuesday morning at 3rd Division District Court in Providence.
