Pawtucket shooting victim dies at hospital, police believe it to be targeted incident
PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — Pawtucket police are investigating a now fatal shooting that occurred Tuesday night.
According to the Pawtucket Police Department, officers responded to calls of shots fired at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Bloomingdale Avenue and Humboldt Avenue.
Arriving officers observed an adult male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, and the victim was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
The shooting appears to be a targeted incident, and detectives will be investigating the incident further.
Police have said that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Mayor Donald Grebien released the following statement on the shooting:
Yesterday evening, Pawtucket experienced the loss of another young adult, far too soon, due to gun violence. This incident, which occurred in the vicinity of Bloomingdale and Humbolt Avenues, is under investigation by the Pawtucket Police Department. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the police department at 401-727-9100.
My administration will continue to work closely with the Pawtucket Police Department and community partners like the Institute for Nonviolence to educate our youth about nonviolence and de-escalation techniques to help prevent future senseless acts of gun violence in our city.
