Witness who testified to discovering O’Keefe’s body with Read to face cross-examination
DEDHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — A key witnesses is expected to face-cross examination in the retrial of Karen Read Wednesday morning.
Jennifer McCabe, a friend of the couple, testified read was “hysterical” when she called on the morning of O’Keefe’s death, repeatedly voicing fear that she may have “hit” him.
Tuesday, McCabe testified she went with Read and another friend to look for O’Keefe on the night of the Boston officer’s death.
She said that Read ran directly towards an object covered in snow, which turned out to be his body.
The judge ruled she will allow two controversial witnesses to testify for the defense, but she also expressed her displeasure at “repeated violations” by Read’s lawyers.
Also on Tuesday, a tech expert testified that data shows O’Keefe’s phone was likely outside on the front lawn “all night” the night of his death, but said it’s possible O’Keefe entered that fellow officer’s house at some point.
Defense attorneys say Read was the victim of a police cover-up, claiming O’Keefe was beaten inside the home and then left outside.
