Edaville Family Theme Park hosts auction, prepares for new chapter

CARVER, Mass. (WLNE) — A beloved piece of local history getting a major makeover.

Edaville Family Theme Park in Carver, known for its train rides and holiday charm, was saying goodbye to many of its iconic attractions as crowds gathered for a bittersweet auction.

The auction held Wednesday was a chance for the public to get their hands on a variety of pieces, like amusement rides, animated dinosaurs, and more.

“I came for only one thing and that was this carousel, ” Plympton resident Scott Sauchuk said.

Sauchuk bought the Edaville carousel for $90,000 with the plan to use the new ride at his farm in Plympton.

“Hopefully we can continue part of the tradition at least with the carousel at the pumpkin patch,” he said.

The goal of Wednesday’s auction was to clear out as much as they can to make room for what’s next: King Richard’s Faire, set to begin Aug. 3o.

“The neat thing about coming into the renaissance is that you’re kind of stepping back in time,” Producer and General Manager Aimée Sedley said. “We will have nine stages with entertainment going on throughout the day and knights jousting on horse back.”

Sedley’s parents started the King Richard’s Faire 44 years ago and had operated at a different site in Carver, but now the theme park will be its new home.

“I don’t want anyone to be sad,” Sedley said. “We’re still going to have fabulous steamed train rides, themed train rides for adults, families, and kids.”

Sedley added the Christmas Festival of Lights for Edaville will still take place this year from Nov. 21 to Dec. 28.

Others simply came out to the auction just to say goodbye to the theme park and cherish all of the memories.

“I came to see some of the auction and to kind of reminisce,” East Taunton resident Alan Perry said. “It’s been a little while since I have been here. I used to come here when I was little with my parents and brought the step daughter twins here. These places are going by the wayside so I came to get a glimpse.”
