Warwick man sentenced to 18 years for bank robbery
WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — Attorney General Peter Neronha said that a Warwick man was sentenced in Kent County Superior Court to serve 18 years at the Adult Correctional Institutions for a bank robbery and subsequent car chase and crash.
40-year-old Roy Mangum plead no contest to three counts of first-degree robbery, one count of eluding police during a high-speed chase, one count of driving to endanger resulting in serious bodily injury, one count of possessing a firearm after conviction of a crime of violence, one count of carrying a pistol without a license, and one count use of a firearm during a crime of violence.
On Jan. 5, 2024 police received reports that a man walked into the TD Bank on West Shore, armed with a handgun, and demanded money from the teller.
He then fled from the bank, and initially yielded to police, but then fled and led police on a chase from Warwick Avenue and onto Airport Road at speeds that reached over 100 miles per hour.
Mangum crashed into a father on Airport Road who was in the car with his two young children, and police then seized a a .25 caliber gun and $5057 in cash stolen during the robbery.
He was sentenced to serve 35 years, with 18 years to serve at the ACI, and 35 years of probation.
