96-year-old Navy veteran receives military honors

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — Sen. Jack Reed honored a 96-year-old Navy veteran by presenting him with medals he earned at the end of World War II.

Seaman Second Class Carmine Lombardi, of Providence, was stationed on the USS Little Rock during and after the war.

Reed presented Lombardi with the World War II Victory Medal, the Honorable Discharge Button, the Honorable Service Lapel Pin, and the American Campaign Medal.

Lombardi was discharged from the Navy in 1947 and worked in the jewelry industry.

He was married to his wife Adelaide Vallante until her death in 2022, and the two raised a son and daughter, as well as their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
