SANDWICH, Mass. (WLNE) — A Cape Cod restaurant burned down on Sunday morning after more than 40 firefighters responded to the scene.

The fire broke out at Captain Scott’s Seafood Bar and Grill at 71 Tupper Road in Sandwich at around 5:30 Sunday morning, and it took crews seven hours to officially declare the fire extinguished.

The Sandwich Fire Department said that a gas leak had begun during the fire, and that an excavator had to peel apart the building for firefighters to put out the flames.

George Gossios, a member of the family who owns the restaurant, told sister station WCVB that he and his family are already planning to rebuild.

One firefighter was evaluated for exhaustion, but otherwise, no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
