RIDOT to hold second press conference on Tower Hill Bridge replacement

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation is holding a press conference at 11 a.m. today ahead of the second straight weekend of lane closures at the Tower Hill Road Bridge in North Kingstown.

Last weekend, RIDOT replaced the bridge carrying Route 1 southbound over Route 138, leaving the bridge carrying the northbound section of Route 1 for this week.

Replacement of the Tower Hill Bridge will begin on Thursday night at 9 p.m. and will continue through the weekend.

As such, detours, lane closures and shifts can be expected throughout the weekend, with Route 1 reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction.

The bridge replacement will be finished before Monday’s commute, according to an earlier press release from the department.

Following the bridge replacement, RIDOT will pave Route 1 from Gilbert Stuart Road to Route 4 later this year, according to their website.
