Pawtucket man sentenced to life in prison for murder

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — A Pawtucket man was sentenced to life in prison by Providence Superior Court for the 2020 murder of his girlfriend yesterday.

According to Attorney General Peter Neronha, Victor Colebut, 46, had been found guilty of strangling 30-year-old Kristine Ohler to death in 2020 by a jury on Feb. 24.

Colebut was convicted on one count of domestic second-degree murder, one count of domestic assault, third offense, and one count of domestic criminal violation of a no contact order, third offense.

Superior Court Justice Joseph Montalbano also ordered Colebut to enroll in a batterer’s intervention program and to relinquish all firearms.

Colebut strangled Ohler in his home on Feb. 17, 2020; first responders found injuries to her face.

She was pronounced dead at Miriam Hospital.

Colebut was detained at the scene; he had admitted to arguing with Ohler while drunk.
