Last living American hostage held by Hamas released

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Hamas has released an American-Israeli hostage held captive since the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel that sparked the ongoing conflict in the region.

Edan Alexander, 21, was released Monday after a deal was negotiated between Hamas and the United States, according to ABC News.

Israeli officials have agreed to a temporary pause in combat and airstrikes in Gaza that will last until Alexander crosses over the border into Israel.

Alexander is originally from New Jersey and joined Israeli Defense Forces at the age of 18 and was captured by Hamas on October 7, 2023.

He is the last living American citizen held hostage by Hamas.
