Group to rally in opposition to proposed 10 cent tax on bottle sales
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A collection of small business owners in the Ocean State will gather today to oppose a controversial bill that would add a tax to bottles.
The proposed legislation would see a ten-cent tax on all bottle sales.
State leaders said it makes sense as consumers would get that money back at a designated site, to help cut down on littering and waste accumulation.
Business owners and the Rhode Island Liquor Operators Collaborative say it would just raise costs for businesses.
They’ll rally at la Esquinita Market in Providence at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
