Healey announces executive branch hiring freeze

BOSTON, Mass. (WLNE) — Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey has announced a hiring freeze for the state’s executive branch.

Healey’s office says it’s due to “widespread economic uncertainty at the national level.”

The announcement also mentions a tightening budget outlook for 2026, although no additional cuts have been reported at this time.

During the freeze, Healey’s office said exemptions could be made for certain roles, including public safety officers and direct care providers.
