Rhode Island house votes to deny $80,000 in McKee cabinet member raises

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island House passed a resolution to deny raises for 11 of governor Dan McKee’s cabinet members.

The proposed raises are for directors of state executive departments, including Rhode Island Department of Transportation Director Peter Aliviti.

The proposed pay bumps add up to over $80,000.

House majority leader, Representative Christopher Blaze-Jewski explained why a resolution needed to be introduced to vote on the raises.

68 house reps voted in favor.

The Rhode Island senate must vote on the resolution by the end of this week.

ABC6 has reached out to the state senate for details on if and when that vote is scheduled for.

Back in March, governor Dan McKee told ABC6 this is the only time frame where cabinet members’ salaries can be addressed.
