64-year-old with arson warrant taken into custody after standoff
WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — The Warwick Police Department said that a 64-year-old man was taken into custody after allegedly threatening residents of an apartment complex with a knife.
The department said the man also had an affidavit warrant out of Cranston for arson.
Police responded to Cedar Pond Drive to find the man had returned to his apartment and was apparently suffering from a mental health episode.
Other residents were evacuated, and he was taken into custody without incident after a “brief standoff.”
Police said the man was transported to the hospital for a mental health assessment and charged with disorderly conduct.
