‘Disastrous cuts’: Rhode Island rep Amo weighs in on GOP Medicaid cuts
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A bill that changes Medicaid and extends trillions of dollars in tax cuts is now over a key hurdle.
The House Budget Committee passed the bill in a 17-16 vote along party lines Sunday night.
Now, House Speaker Mike Johnson is trying to get GOP moderates and fiscal hawks to come together.
The bill creates new work requirements for Medicaid recipients.
That program provides health coverage for children, seniors, people with disabilities, parents and adults without dependents.
Rhode Island Congressman Gabe Amo shared his frustration with the bill, saying in a statement:
Republicans’ budget betrayal is cruel and fiscally irresponsible. I voted against this plan in committee twice and I will fight overtime, every day, on behalf of Rhode Islanders to prevent these disastrous cuts from becoming law.
