Overnight crash in Warwick sends 3 to hospital

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE)- Three people were taken to the hospital after a head-on collision in Warwick.

Warwick police said the crash happened at 2:46 a.m. on Easter Sunday.

Officers responded to the area of 1909 Elmwood Avenue for a report of a crash involving a Subaru SUV and a four door Acura sedan.

Warwick officers on scene said they found an unresponsive 23-year-old man trapped inside of the Acura. Rescue crews removed the man from the car, before he was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital.

According to Warwick police, the man is currently in critical, but stable condition.

Officers found a 25-year-old man lying on the sidewalk of the northbound lane of Elmwood Avenue, and another 25-year-old man standing next to him on the sidewalk. Police said both men were alert and conscious.

Warwick police said the man found on the ground was the driver of the Subaru and the other man was the passenger. Both were treated on scene and taken to Rhode Island Hospital for additional care.

Both men are in stable condition.

In initial investigation showed that while driving south on Elmwood Avenue, the driver of the Acura crossed the center lines and drove into the northbound lane before it hit the Subaru SUV head-on.

Police said there were no witnesses.

Warwick Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and are actively investigating the crash.
