‘Tragic accident’: Early investigation shows Westerly man and dog died after accidental car strike by wife
WESTERLY, R.I. (WLNE) — An 87-year-old man and a dog have died in a motor vehicle accident that took place Wednesday afternoon in Westerly, according to Westerly police.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:45 p.m. when officers responded to calls of a car accident involving a pedestrian and a dog on Atlantic Avenue.
Both the man and the dog were found suffering from significant injuries and were transported to local hospitals.
The man and the dog later died from their injuries in the incident.
The preliminary investigation shows that the man and dog were accidentally struck by the man’s 84-year-old wife in the driveway.
The Westerly Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team and Detective Division are continuing their investigation into this incident.
