Man arrested after death of child in Franklin crash

FRANKLIN, Mass. (WLNE) — The Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office said that a man was arrested after a child was killed in a crash in Franklin.

21-year-old James Blanchard was charged with motor vehicle homicide while driving negligently and under the influence of alcohol,  three counts of operating under the influence of alcohol and causing serious bodily injury, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with an open container of alcohol, and a marked lanes violation.

The crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Grove Street.

The child victim was taken to the hospital and was pronounced deceased.

The child’s father was the driver of their vehicle and was released, while her mother and brother were still in the hospital with injuries.

Blanchard was held on $500,000 cash bail and was expected to be in court on May 27.
