Florida charter boat captain sentenced to one month for poisoning, shooting dolphins

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A charter boat captain in Florida has been sentenced to a month in jail for poisoning and shooting dolphins.

Authorities said 31-year-old Zackary Barfield poisoned between 24 and 70 dolphins, saying he was frustrated the mammals were eating the bait from his clients’ fishing lines.

On top of that, Barfield shot at least five dolphins, killing at least one of them.

One of those shootings happened in front of two children.
