NANTUCKET, Mass. (WLNE) — Around 40 people were arrested as part of an Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation on Tuesday night on Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket.

ICE claims that among those arrested were a child sex offender and a documented member of MS-13.

Martha’s Vineyard was in the news in 2022 when Florida governor Ron DeSantis sent two planes full of undocumented immigrants to the island.

The Nantucket Police Department said that they were not asked to be involved in the arrests, which were carried out alongside federal agencies including the FBI and DEA.

It’s unknown where those detained by ICE are being held.
