Fall River Police say officer arrested after allegedly breaking into a home while under the influence

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — The Fall River Police Department said an officer within the department was arrested after he allegedly broke into a home while under the influence on May 27.

On the morning of May 27, a caller reported to police that an unknown man was banging on their front door and repeatedly asking for a woman by name.

Before police arrived, the man allegedly forced himself into the residence and asked for the woman by name, according to Fall River police. The resident informed the man that the woman did not live at the home, and he proceeded to leave on foot.

Once officers arrived, the complainant described the suspect to police, and said he was heavily intoxicated and “appeared to be confused or mistaken about the location.”

About half a block away, additional units found a man matching the description while the officers were at the residence. Police said he “exhibited signs of alcohol intoxication” and was taken into custody.

Fall River police added that the suspect was identified as a member of the Fall River Police Department.

Police said a criminal complaint was submitted to the court, and the name of the officer will be released once he is arraigned.
