Guatemalan man convicted in 2014 of heroin, cocaine trafficking pleads guilty to illegal re-entry

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Guatemalan national previously deported after a Connecticut drug trafficking conviction pleaded guilty Thursday to a charge of illegal re-entry, according to Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom.

Pedro Andony Alvarado Aguilar, 46, was arrested in Rhode Island for allegedly driving on a suspended license and obstruction.

Immigration officers learned through a fingerprint match of these charges on April 10.

Alvarado was convicted in a Connecticut court in November of 2014 on charges of conspiracy to import 1,000 grams or more of heroin and conspiracy to import 5,000 grams or more of cocaine.

He was then deported on July 1, 2015.

Alvarado will be sentenced on June 25 by a federal district judge.
