Truck engulfed in flames after striking telephone pole in Attleboro

ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WLNE) — Attleboro officials responded Thursday morning to the scene of a pickup truck engulfed in flames after the vehicle struck a telephone pole, snapping the structure in half.

The incident occurred at approximately 11 a.m. at the intersection of County Street and Read Street, according to the Attleboro Fire Department.

The Chevrolet Colorado pick-up truck was making a left from Read Street onto County Street when it struck a Toyota Corolla, spun out of control and struck the telephone pole.

The pole was snapped in half, and live wires fell into the roadway which ignited the fire that consumed the truck.

The driver of the truck was able to exit the vehicle before the fire started.

The fire spread to nearby trees and brush, but was quickly extinguished by arriving firefighters.

Local roads were shut down and traffic was detoured while National Grid and the Attleboro Fire Department ensured that the area was safe.

Several power outages were reported in the area as a result of the downed pole.

The driver of the Corolla was transported to a Sturdy Hospital with non life-threatening injuries and the driver of the pickup truck sustained a minor injury and declined medical treatment.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by Attleboro police.
