Warwick Police arrest man after dead animals found in residence

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — The Warwick Police Department said a man was arrested on May 27 after he allegedly assaulted police officers and multiple dead animals were found in his home.

30-year-old Michael Gast, Jr. was charged with one count of malicious killing of animals, one count of unnecessary cruelty to animals with death resulting, five counts of unnecessary cruelty to animals, two counts of simple assault, and one count of resisting arrest.

Police responded to Negansett Avenue after a 911 hang-up call which was later discovered to have come from Gast.

Police alleged that Gast became combative and assaulted officers, which resulted in him being subdued and transported to the hospital.

During a search of the residence, police allegedly found one deceased dog and one deceased parrot, as well as two live dogs, a live cat, and two live parrots, who were all removed.
