Man sentenced in 2019 murder of 17-year-old in New Bedford
FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — The man convicted in the 2019 murder of a 17-year-old in New Bedford was sentenced on Friday, according to the office of Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III.
Kevin Edwards was sentenced to life in person for the murder charge, and an additional 30 years for assault and gun charges.
On Oct. 19, 2019, police responded to a shooting on Ashley Boulevard and discovered Collazo-Ruiz and a 20-year-old New Bedford man had both been shot.
Collazo-Ruiz was pronounced dead at the scene while the 20-year-old victim was taken to the hospital.
Quinn said the second victim was paralyzed from his wounds.
On May 15, Edwards was convicted of murder, assault and battery with a firearm, and other firearms-related offenses in the homicide.
