Read retrial picks back up after defense crash expert testimony

DEDHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — The defense will continue presenting its case Monday morning in the second murder trial of Karen Read.

On Friday, Read’s legal team called an engineer to the stand who analyzes crash data.

That witness specializes in accident reconstruction, and was called to clarify discrepancies in data from Read’s car in previous reports.

The witness said its possible that O’Keefe used his iPhone after Karen Read allegedly backed up her car.

“Based on all of the data in those two original reports, regardless of what adjustment is made or which two points are used to try to correct the clock, the phone lock event always occurs after the end of the event,” said Matthew Disogra.

The defense has said it may need up to two weeks to present their case, and has submitted a list of 91 potential witnesses.

Speculation still lingers as to whether Read will testify in her own defense this time and if former trooper Michael Proctor will be called to the stand.

The trial will pick back up around 9 a.m.
