Will Karen Read testify for the first time?

DEDHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — The retrial of Karen Read will pause Thursday due to the expected heat.

But the jury had the 2022 blizzard on the mind Wednesday, as Karen Read’s defense called a snow plow driver to the stand.

Brian Loughran claims he didn’t see John O’Keefe’s body, despite passing the Canton home multiple times.

Loughran testified he passed 34 Fairview Road four times the night of O’Keefe’s death in 2022.

All after the time frame that prosecutors say Karen read hit O’Keefe and left him to die.

Special prosecutor Hank Brennan pressed Loughran on his memory and visibility that night.

Loughran says he had good visibility but admitted his times had varied in different testimonies.

Meanwhile, we’re learning more about the possibility of Karen Read testifying for the first time in either trial.

A recent court filing by Read’s defense team might mean she will not testify in the retrial.

Filings submitted Monday include a section on her “right not to testify.”

It says Read did not testify in the trial and asks jurors not to hold that against her in deliberations.

The filing that was made public Wednesday is not final and does not prevent the defense from putting her on the stand.

The case picks back up Friday.
