Town of Easton outlines public services reductions after voters reject override budget

EASTON, Mass. (WLNE) — The Town of Easton outlined a number of public services reductions that will occur when the new budget takes effect on July 1.

The town said that voters rejected an override budget that would’ve added $7.3 million on June 10, leaving the final budget amount at $107,117,862.

The town said that the final budget would necessitate the “most severe reductions in public services since the 2008 financial crisis” due to a $6.36 million preliminary deficit “driven by inflationary factors impacting health insurance, transportation, and utilities.”

Cuts to Easton Public Schools will result in reduced staff and elimination of programs, while town departments will see 50 full-time equivalent positions cut.
