Jury deliberations continue in Karen Read retrial
DEDHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — Karen Read’s fate is now in the hands of the jury as deliberations continue Monday in the murder retrial.
Closing arguments wrapped up on Friday after eight weeks of testimony and evidence.
The jury is made up of 12 jurors, seven women and five men.
Read stands accused of second degree murder, and faces two lesser charges in the death of her then-boyfriend Boston police officer John O’Keefe in 2022.
Her first trial ended in a mistrial last July, after the jury couldn’t agree on a unanimous verdict.
Prosecutors allege she hit O’Keefe with her Lexus SUV and left him to die in the cold.
The defense said the investigation was botched from the start.
After the closing arguments, Judge Beverly Cannone sent the jurors on their way to start deliberations.
