North Kingstown man arrested after alleged gas station robbery in Somerset
SOMERSET, Mass. (WLNE) — The Somerset Police Department said a North Kingstown man was arrested after an alleged unarmed robbery of a gas station on June 17.
58-year-old James Spader, was charged with unarmed robbery and larceny from a building.
Police responded to the SAV-ON gas station on Grand Army of the Republic Highway just after 4 p.m. for reports of an unarmed robbery.
Police said Spader allegedly stole the business’s cash drawer and fled with it on foot.
Upon arrival, police confirmed the suspect had fled.
Police identified the suspect as Spader.
Hours after the incident, Spader’s vehicle was found at a North Attleboro motel.
After obtaining an arrest warrant and search warrant, Spader was arrested without incident and officers searched the motel room.
Inside the room, police allegedly seized a firearm and “evidence linking Spader to the robbery,” according to Somerset police.
Spader was arraigned on Wednesday and given $1,000 bail.
Police said Spader did not post bail and will be held in New Bedford.
The North Attleboro police will manage the firearm charges.
