Fall River seeking out information on wounded combat veterans ahead of Purple Heart City ceremony

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — The City of Fall River is seeking information on Purple Heart recipients who have resided in the Fall River area ahead of receiving its Purple Heart City designation.

According to a statement from Fall River Veterans’ Services, the outreach effort is to ensure that all of these veterans are acknowledged.

The city is seeking to recognize residents both living and deceased who were wounded in combat.

Fall River will receive its Purple Heart City designation on August 7 at a ceremony at Bicentennial Park.

Anyone who knows a Purple Heart recipient is asked to submit the following information to Fall River Veterans’ Services by July 21:

  • Full name of recipient
  • Branch of service and conflict
  • Date and place of birth
  • Date of passing, if applicable

Friends or family submitting a veteran’s information are also asked to include their own contact information.
