Cumberland band teacher resigns after allegations of unprofessional behavior

CUMBERLAND, R.I. (WLNE) — Cumberland High School’s band teacher has resigned following allegations of “unprofessional behavior.”

On Memorial Day weekend, the Cumberland School Committee says Michael Feroce was supervising a school trip in New York City.

It was reported that Feroce was in a hotel room for an extended period of time with several female high school students late in the evening.

The committee says interviews are being completed with the students involved but right now, there’s no evidence of inappropriate physical contact.

Feroce was placed on administrative leave while the superintendent began writing up a formal recommendation for his resignation.

The process for his termination was longer because Feroce was a tenured teacher.

The school department is now offering support to students who were on the trip.
