Pawtucket officials set to crack open McCoy Stadium time capsules in site ceremony
PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — As McCoy Stadium comes down, Pawtucket city officials are commemorating the iconic stadium and the PawSox by opening the two time capsules left under the stadium.
Both were uncovered by Shawmut Construction as they demolished the stadium.
One dates back to the building of the stadium in 1940, and the other commemorates the longest game in pro-baseball history.
That game, which went 33 innings, happened 44 years ago on this day.
Local dignitaries will open the capsules Monday at 5:30 p.m.
