WEST GREENWICH, R.I. (WLNE) — The woman who was hit by a car and killed Monday night on Route 102 in West Greenwich has been identified.
Police say 74-year-old Betty Turnbull, of West Greenwich, was walking her dog and tried to cross at the road around 6:30 p.m., when she was struck by a car.
West Greenwich police say the car was operated by 30-year-old Gab-Andy Montervil, of Warwick.
Montervil immediately stopped and attempted to help Turnbull, according to police.
Turnbull was rushed to the hospital where she later passed away. Her dog was also killed in the accident.
Chief Richard Ramsay says that “Route 102 is a very busy roadway and after dusk and pedestrians and bicyclist are not very visible.” He urges anyone wanting to walk or ride a bike on Rt. 102 to wear reflective attire.
