Rhode Island state trooper released from hospital after breakdown lane crash

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — A Rhode Island state trooper is now out of the hospital after he was injured in a crash on I-95 in Cranston.

According to state police, the crash happened Tuesday afternoon on 95 south near the Laurens Street overpass.

The trooper was checking on a tractor trailer in the breakdown lane.

Police said a minivan driver veered off the road and hit the cruiser, pushing it into the tractor trailer and pinned the trooper inside.

The trooper had to be removed from the cruiser and taken an area hospital.

The driver of the minivan was also treated and taken to the hospital.

No word this morning on any charges.
