New Bedford playground given green light to reopen after May rat infestation

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — Officials at New Bedford Regional Airport said the playground that had to be shut down due to a rat infestation in May has re-opened.

Those rats started showing up on Shawmut Avenue after a waste transfer facility went up in flames.

That forced city officials to close the Rodriguez Playground to get the rat situation under control.

The health department has since signed off on re-opening the playground to children and their families.
