2 staff members evaluated after accidental chemical exposure at Assonet camp

ASSONET, Mass. (WLNE) — The Freetown Fire Department said two camp staff members were taken to the hospital for evaluation after an accidental chemical exposure at Camp Welch on Tuesday.
On Tuesday morning, crews responded to the camp for reports of a chemical exposure.
Officials said there was an accidental chemical mixture inside the pool house.
Officials said two staff members were exposed and suffered respiratory irritation. They were taken to the hospital for “precautionary evaluation.”
No campers or additional staff members were affected.
The Massachusetts State Hazmat Team assisted with the response.
Officials said camp staff “acted swiftly and appropriately,” and followed safety protocol.
The Freetown Fire Department said the chemical exposure was contained and there is no ongoing threat.
