PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Burrillville man accused of pointing a gun in the face of a police officer while intoxicated appeared in Providence District Court Tuesday morning.

Nicholas Smith, 40, entered no plea and his bail remains set at $10,000.

Smith faces multiple charges in the July 3 incident, including assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm while intoxicated, discharging a firearm within a compact area, simple assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Officers responded to Smith’s home on Tarkiln Road in Burrillville Thursday morning for reports of gunshots.
