‘Casino House’ badly damaged in Barrington fire
BARRINGTON, R.I. (WLNE) — A fire left a home on Talcott Street in town badly damaged Tuesday.
Barrington Fire Department Captain Jason Fanion said firefighters got a call around 11 a.m. reporting smoke in the home.
Workers had been on scene doing “hot work,” Fanion said, which OSHA considers any work involving electric or gas welding, cutting, brazing or similar flame or spark-producing operations.
When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke on all floors.

Several firefighters were treated at the scene for heat exhaustion as temperatures reached 90 degrees in the area, Fanion said.
Nobody was hurt.
Witnesses said the home, not far from the town beach, is popular and known as the “Casino House.”
Fanion said it is an older home, which made firefighting efforts more difficult, but was well built.
The second floor has significant structural damage and the house is uninhabitable, Fanion said.
The state fire marshal is investigating the cause.
