Mount Hope Bridge resurfacing scheduled to begin Aug. 14

BRISTOL, R.I. (WLNE) — The Mount Hope Bridge will be shut down for four days in August while workers resurface the bridge’s pavement, according to the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority.
During that time, the bridge will be closed to all traffic- including emergency vehicles.
The Turnpike and Bridge Authority said that they have spoken with Bristol and Portsmouth officials to “ensure good communication” about the timing and detours related to the work, so as to impact emergency vehicles as little as possible.
According to the RITBA, the project could be rescheduled for September if severe weather is to be expected during their original timeline.
The new surface is expected to last around five years, with the RITBA noting that a full redecking of the bridge is one of their planned capital projects in the future.
