Warwick Police Captain recognized for saving Cranston family from house fire

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — The City of Warwick honored Warwick Police Captain Charles Boisseau on Wednesday after he saved a family from a house fire in Cranston on July 5.

Cranston police said Captain Boisseau was on his way home from work when he saw a trash can on fire in front of a home.

He immediately got out of his vehicle, called 911, and banged on the door to alert the sleeping residents.

Boisseau then worked with the homeowner in an attempt to put out the fire with a garden hose.

The flames began to extend to the garage, which promoted Boisseau to call 911 again.

Boisseau and the homeowner then entered the home, which was “becoming engulfed in flames,” to rescue the homeowner’s wife and three children.

All occupants were able to get out of the home, and nobody was injured.

Police believe the fire was caused by fireworks that had been improperly disposed of.
