Providence Restaurant Weeks brings flavor statewide

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Island’s favorite culinary celebration is back — and this year, it’s bigger and bolder than ever.

Providence Restaurant Weeks runs through July 19 and isn’t just for the capital city. Restaurants from Woonsocket to Westerly are joining in with special menus, fixed-price deals and can’t-miss dishes drawing diners by the dozens.

“The main goal is to bring people into the restaurants,” said Christine Phillips of GoProvidence. “It’s about trying new places and keeping our local spots busy during the slower summer months.”

At Angelo’s Civita Farnese, a Federal Hill staple, owner Jamie Antignano said the turnout has been overwhelming. “It has been people knocking at the doors,” she said. “It’s brought in people who’ve been coming here for 40 years — and folks walking in for the very first time.”

Beyond the foot traffic, Antignano said the event is about heart.

“Mom-and-pop restaurants really appreciate this kind of support,” she said. “Rhode Island is a community-based state. We all try to support each other the best we can.”

Whether you’re a loyal local or just looking for a reason to try something new, there’s never been a better time to eat your way across the Ocean State.
