Revitalized field reopened in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — Mayor Jon Mitchell, Director of Parks, Recreation and Beaches Mary Rapoza, and other officials in New Bedford cut the ribbon to reopen Dias Field on Friday.
City officials said that the field was renovated into a “state-of-the-art soccer and recreational complex,” with new with bleachers, lights and other amenities, as well as a circular walking path and picnic area.
A new playground and bathrooms, as well as 30 new trees, are also being designed and installed.
The project was funded via $1.3 million from the American Rescue Plan Act and grants from the National Recreation and Park Association and Musco Sports Lighting.
“This project marks a new chapter for Dias Field,” Mitchell said. “For many years, it was bustling with activity as one of the city’s busiest baseball and softball hubs. It is now New
Bedford’s premier soccer complex.”
The field will be available for use and permitting through the city’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Beaches.
