New Bedford firefighters rescue 2 from apartment fire

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The New Bedford Fire Department said it responded to a fire at an apartment building on Carriage Drive around 6 p.m. on July 11.
When firefighters arrived smoke and fire were visible from the two-story building, and firefighters rescued two occupants from the second floor.
One of the rescued individuals was then transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
All other occupants were able to get out of the building safely, and firefighters were able to extinguish the fire after it burned through a portion of the roof.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
