Providence police chief Perez to address weekend ICE-involved incident
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence police chief Colonel Oscar Perez will hold a press conference Monday afternoon to address a Sunday incident at 55 Alverson Avenue and an incident on West Friendship Street earlier in July.
According to Providence City Hall, the press conference related to these incidents will take place at 2 p.m. at the Providence Public Safety Complex.
Community members and Providence police command staff will be on hand.
ICE conducted a raid on the Alverson Avenue residence on Sunday and were assisted by Providence police against department protocol, according to a statement made by Rhode Island Representative David Morales.
The office of Providence mayor Brett Smiley said that PPD did not assist ICE in any arrests and were on scene responding to “multiple vehicle accidents” involving ICE agents and remained at the location to document the incidents.
