PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Roger Williams Park Zoo celebrated a Masai giraffe’s birthday on Monday.

The zoo’s male giraffe, Enzi, celebrated his second birthday.

According to the zoo, Enzi’s name translates to “powerful” in Swahili.

Enzi arrived at Roger Williams Park Zoo in June 2024 from the Franklin Park Zoo.

He is a part of the zoo’s AZA’s Species Survival Plan, which the zoo said is crucial for keeping giraffe populations healthy and diverse.

Masai giraffes, like Enzi, are endangered, but thanks to conservation efforts, their numbers are slowly growing again.
